The stars

When night comes I stand on the stairway and listen the stars are swarming in the garden and i am standing in the dark. Listen, a star fell with a twinkle! Do not go out on the grass with bare feet; my garden is full of splinters.

Edith Södergran
What comes tomorrow

What comes tomorrow? Perhaps not you. Perhaps another embrace and a new touch and a similar pain... I shall leave you with a knowledge like no other: I shall return as a part of your own pain. I shall come to you from another heaven with a new resolve. I shall come to you from another star with a same glance. I shall come to you with my old yearning in a new features. I shall come to you a stranger, evil and faithful with the footsteps of a beast from your heart's far-off desert home. You will fight me, hard and powerless, as you would fight your fate, your happiness, your star. I shall smile and twirl silk threads around my finger and the little spool of your fate I shall hide in the fold of my dress.

Edith Södergran
Love

My soul was a light blue dress the colour of the sky; I left it on a rock by the sea and naked I came to you, looking like a woman. And like a woman I sat at your table and drank a toast in wine, inhaling the scent of some roses. You found me beautiful like something you saw in a dream,I forgot everything, I forgot my childhood and my homeland, I only knew that your caresses held me captive. And smiling you held up a mirror and asked me to look. I saw that my shoulders were made of dust and crumbled away, I saw that my beauty was sick and wished only to dissapear. Oh, hold me tight in your arms so close that I need nothing.
